Help Us Rethink Women’s Cycling Programs

What if women’s cycling programs actually reflected real lives?
Not assumptions. Not “this is how it’s always been done.” But real availability, real barriers, and real needs.
At Addventageous Bike Community | Parramatta Bike Hub, we’re taking a step back to listen.
Because over the years, one thing has become clear: women’s cycling journeys are not one-size-fits-all.
🌿 It’s Not Just About Learning to Ride
For some women, it’s learning to balance for the very first time.
For others, it’s returning after 20 or 30 years—navigating fear, confidence, and the reality that falling now has different consequences.
And for many, it’s about something more practical: feeling confident enough to ride for everyday transport.
To the shops. To school drop-off. Around the local area.
Each of these journeys requires a different starting point—and a different kind of support.
⏰ So Why Are So Many Programs the Same?
One of the biggest questions we’re exploring is simple:
When do women actually want to ride?
Programs are often scheduled on weekends. But does that really work?
What about school hours?
What about women balancing work, caring roles, or both?
What about those who need time and space to learn without pressure?
We’re asking these questions because we want to do better.
💬 We’re Asking the Community
We’ve created a short survey to understand:
Preferred days and times (including weekday options)
What stops women from attending
What support helps build confidence
Interest in beginner, confidence, transport riding and e-bikes
It takes just 2 minutes, but the impact is much bigger.
Your responses will directly shape how programs are designed and delivered moving forward—across both community and user-pays offerings.
🌸 Designed Around Real Lives
This is about more than scheduling.
It’s about creating:
supportive environments
realistic learning pathways
flexible program options
and opportunities that feel accessible—not intimidating
It’s about meeting women where they’re at.
🔋 Looking Ahead
We’re also exploring how e-bikes can open up new possibilities—especially for longer distances, hills, and returning riders.
But again, the same question applies:
What do women actually need to feel confident using them?
👉 Have Your Say
If you’ve ever thought about riding a bike—whether it’s your first time or your return—this is your opportunity to shape what comes next.

📣 Help Us Reach More Women
Know someone who’s:
always said, “I wish I could ride…”
thinking about getting back on a bike
or just needs a bit of support to start
Please share this with them.
Because the more voices we hear, the better we can design programs that truly work.
💛 Final Thought
Better programs don’t start with assumptions. They start with listening.
