Your membership and our cycling expertise help fund the Parramatta Bike Hub and Community Bike Library.

Hello Bike Community,

Here’s what’s happening at Parramatta Bike Hub this month.

October is Biketober, and the lighter evenings give us more time to enjoy riding, connect with friends, and explore somewhere new.

Daylight saving starts Sunday 4 October—remember to put your clocks forward one hour!

Sunday 4 October — Monthly social ride

Join us to explore Sydney Olympic Park with a rail trails theme

Monday 5 October — Her Cycling Connections

Her Lesson and Her Ride are meeting on the Labour Day public holiday. If work commitments usually keep you away, here’s your chance! Join the conversation, ask questions and pick up tips and advice to help you get riding.

Tuesday 6 and 13 October — Cycling Without Age

Our Parramatta chapter gathers to support river rides for aged care services, with morning tea, stories and laughter. Interested in volunteering, pilot training, fundraising or helping serve morning tea? Let us know.

Friday Morning Social Rides

 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 October

Our café destination is decided on the morning. Favourites include Bakehouse Quarter in North Strathfield, Fork & Spoon in Meadowbank and Havenstone in North Parramatta. We recently tried Abattoir Blues near Sydney Olympic Park station, too.

We’re always looking for new destinations—bring your suggestions!

Please bring your own bike in good working condition on Friday 16 October. The Bike Library will be closed, so loan bikes won’t be available. Ride leader to be confirmed.

More daylight, more ways to ride!

Wednesday 14 October — Ride to Work Day Biketober is a chance to get back into riding to work or try an everyday journey by bike.

Friday 30 October, 6–8 pm — Epping Night Market guided ride Meet at Carlingford tram stop for an evening ride using shared paths and quiet streets, with opportunities to practise wayfinding and build confidence riding after dark.

Allow 45 minutes each way, with around 30 minutes to explore the markets and grab a bite to eat. Yes, it’s hilly—an e-bike makes those climbs a little easier! Please bring working front and rear bike lights.

Interested in becoming a ride leader for our local rides? We’d love to hear from you.

Drop Into Your Hub

Thursdays and Saturdays, 10 am–2 pm Come for bike pickups and drop-offs, advice, encouragement, or a chat. Pick up a map, borrow a book full of bike stories, or enjoy a courtyard cuppa.

On Thursdays, you’re welcome to help strip old bikes for spare parts. Learn a skill, try a new tool, and join the conversation while helping useful parts find another life.

Our mechanic is scheduled as needed on Thursdays—please check ahead if you need mechanical support.

Important: closed Thursday 15 and Saturday 17 October

Charlene will be in Adelaide from 14–17 October, speaking at the Australian Walking and Cycling Conference. Please plan your Hub visits and Bike Library pickups or returns around these closures.

Our “All About Brakes” spring maintenance session will be rescheduled. We’ll let you know the new date once confirmed.

Thank you for being part of our community. Your membership helps support the ongoing operation of the Hub—a place to return to for skills, confidence, support, and company along your riding journey.
