Key Training Outcomes – Casual Support Rider Pool

Confident Group Ride Support & Participant Engagement


Riders will develop skills to support group rides safely and inclusively. This includes managing group dynamics, applying shared path etiquette, using clear signals, and building confidence among participants of all ages and abilities—especially beginners, CALD communities, and women.

Trip Planning, Route Familiarity & Navigation


Support Riders will gain practical experience in route planning and navigation. This includes reading cue sheets or maps, identifying rest stops and hazards, understanding local cycling infrastructure (e.g. shared paths, cycleways, crossings), and assisting with group pacing and wayfinding during rides.

Bike Safety Checks, Session Readiness & Basic Maintenance

Training will cover how to conduct an ABC (Air, Brakes, Chain) check, assist with bike and helmet fitting, and identify common mechanical issues. Riders will also be trained in setting up and packing down sessions, checking equipment, and responding appropriately to on-path issues.
